First Attempts

Embroidered onesies, based on 2 of the illustrations I did for my nephew’s nursery.

Animal Alphabet

I have also been working on another alphabet, animals. I didn’t want to do just the general cat, dog, etc. (although I am doing some of those) – I wanted to do some lesser known animals as well. Here are the completed ones, I am also in the middle of Iguana.

I was going to make the letters part of the background of the animals, but changed my mind after Frog (the first one I did). I will change the lettering in Photoshop later to make it match the others. Frog is gouache, all others are acrylic. Format is 12″x15″, illustration board – to allow for matting, finished will be 11″x14″, plus matte.

Star Wars alphabet format is the same, all are acrylic.

Enjoy!

Star Wars, baby!

Jason and I went to the special event “An Evening with Kevin Smith” at the Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando on Thursday. I had really wanted to go to SWCVI and meet some of my favorite Star Wars artists, but unfortunately finances didn’t add up, so we just went to the special event. Other than the parking disaster (the event started at 7pm and the trams were closed by then – so we had to walk from parking to the concourse, which was about 3/4 of a mile each way), the event was GREAT! I think Kevin Smith is hilarious and a great creative mind. He had so much to say and it was all inspiring and funny. Jason and I are both huge Star Wars geeks, so that just made it even better!

Anyhoo, I thought I would show off some of the Star Wars alphabet illustrations I have been working on since my long blog break from February to August. I promise I haven’t been stuck in a hole somewhere! I have several different plates I am spinning all at once, but it keeps any one thing from getting stale, I think.

Not the best photos, but they’re all I have at the moment. Happy painting!

Bzzzz…

I had so much fun today embroidering a hand towel with a sketch style design of a mermaid and a starfish. I did the colors to match the decor in the guest bathroom… too cute! I also talked with Jason and we are going to ask his mom if I can borrow her sewing machine (provided we have it serviced) to use for my ambitious project to make a queen size quilt to be finished by the end of 2013. I can’t wait!

All kinds of plans to do patchwork animal designs on my pack of oneises and other children’s clothes as well as working on my embroidery skills. I also have the watercolor backgrounds done and drying for the set of 5 “do not disturb” door handle hangers I’m doing. I’m a creative little busy bee on a roll!

Happiness Galore

Oh my goodness, you have no idea how beyond stupidly happy I have been today! It’s almost insane how positively ecstatic I am… and I have absolutely no clue why. Maybe it’s because I have been working so much on my art and the start up stuff for JCJ Designs or maybe because I have been reading a lot of Anna Maria Horner’s blog. She is so positive and uplifting with her posts and creativity. I have no idea. Either way, I’m loving every second of it!

New News

Wow, this year is just flying by! I can’t believe that it’s been 6 months since my last post. Things have been so busy, but in a good way for the most part.

Healthwise, I’m still pretty fragile. I’m just trying my best to stay positive and go at a pace that my body can handle. My medicines have finally evened themselves out and overall, I’m doing much better. I am truly thankful for the positive path my health is taking.

As far as my art is concerned, I have been growing by leaps and bounds! I have had a hard time with jobs due to my health issues, but I have taken the time to really concentrate on my art. I am working on several projects currently and have so many new ideas and projects in store!

Jason and I have started our new business and added a great new partner – his mom! Chris is an amazing artist and I can’t wait to see more of her work soon. You can visit us here at our brand new Etsy store!

Lots more to come… I can’t wait!
